DCAFS and TIPDeP Engage Presidential Delivery Unit Head and Director

The Troikas of donor groups namely Donor Committee for Agriculture and Food Security (DCAFS) and Trade, Industry and Private Sector Development Partners (TIPDeP) jointly held a courtesy call with the new head of the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU), Dr. Janet Banda, who is also the Deputy Secretary to the President and Cabinet. She was accompanied by the newly appointed Director of Agro-industrialization, Dr. Enwell Kadango. The Troikas were led by Mr. Bobojon Yatimov of the World Bank and Mrs. Eluphy Nyirenda of USAID, representing the DCAFS and the TIPDeP Chair respectively. Other troika agencies in attendance were UNDP, FCDO and the EU.

Below are key take-home messages from the meeting:

PDU was applauded for playing a critical role in helping the Malawi Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to expedite the unlocking of bottlenecks being experienced by the private sector when doing business in Malawi.

The DCAFS and TIPDeP encouraged PDU to among others focus on facilitating the approval process of the Special Economic Zone Bill, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Bill which have been pending since 2020.

DCAFS and TIPDeP re-confirmed their commitment to support the Government in providing the Enabling Business Environment. The meeting agreed that Enabling Business Environment is critical to incentivizing the private sector and Foreign Development Investments (FDIs), which are key vehicles for job and wealth creation.
